Chaos by Coltrane. Putting (and breaking) the rule in unruliness!

Random Musings and Commentary

Been awhile since I’ve posted anything. Some random thoughts…

Pokemon video game…

I was at Target two weekends ago and happened to wander through the video game section. They had a display for a Game Boy and a Pokemon game. I tried it.

The game didn’t exactly hold my attention. (I’m probably too old). You walk along, meet up with different people who then challenge you to a Pokemon fight. I fought two fights and basically bitch slapped the two opposing Pokemon’s into oblivion (the game says that they fainted. HA!) I was hailed a Pokemon genius by the game.

Zzzzzzzz…..man what happened to the old days with Nintendo and Sega games? Spy vs. Spy. Hang On. Choplifter. The whole Pokemon thang escapes me. “I challenge you!” “Yeah, fine….” *bitch slap*

iTunes…

I got a $20 gift certificate to iTunes for my birthday from a good friend of mine. It’s been great becaues I’ve downloaded a bunch of songs that I’ve always liked but never had in my collection and for the most part I’ve been able to get all the songs I’ve looked for.

Except a few. I had heard in the news about how no Beatles songs were available on iTunes (but would be soon), but I had no idea that Led Zepplin is not available! (But solo Robert Plant is.) Incidentally, I already have damn near every Beatles song ever released so not having the Beatles on iTunes wasn’t a problem. But….no Led Zepplin?! Every cover version of their songs could be found, including the entire catalog of songs from a cover band called Led Zepagain (or something like that). But no original Zepplin. Pbthptbh!!

In addition to that, there were three Frank Sinatra songs I wanted, “Summerwind,” “New York, New York,” and “My Way.” Upon looking for Frank, I found all kinds of his hits. Except those three I wanted. WTF?! However, I found everybody and their brother’s versions of those three songs. Everybody from Michale Buble’ to Harry Connick Jr. to Barry Manilow to…people I ain’t never heard of.

*Sigh* Needless to say the search for the Sinatra hits did not go my way…

Radio…

Ugh! Radio, in general, sucks nowadays. No matter what station I listen to and no matter what the format is (classic rock, oldies, country, adult contemporary) it seems they pick about 20 or so songs and then play them all to death every day for months on end. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard (and hated) Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You.” I’m not all that found of John Mayer either. (Yeah we’re waiting…waiting…waiting for this song to be OVER!) And will somebody please tell me that Avril Lavigne had another hit AFTER “Complicated”? And, will somebody please tell me why it figures that I have the latest Christina Aguilera album but haven’t heard any of the songs from it on the radio?! Except on the “Top Hits” station which plays all the bump and grind, hip hop, what the *%$!#@ are they singing about? crap that I can’t stand to listen to.

Back to Basics

There is one modern song that I don’t mind hearing endlessly. “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. (I bought that one with my iTunes GC). Which reminds me, I went to put this song on my MySpace page awhile back and Snow Patrol’s MySpace page only has it in the truncated less than 1 minute version. HEY! Snow Patrol! Teasers don’t work on MySpace! Do yourself a favor for promoting yourselves and put the full song out there! Sheesh!

Ugh. I could prattle on about the entire music industry as it currently exists but I won’t. At least, not right now. I’ll touch on more of that in the future.

Distracted by birds…

I killed the battery in my Firebird two weeks ago and it was all the birds fault. (No, not the FireBIRD’s fault. Just the birds!) I pulled into the yard and my neighbor has a bird feeder in the tree that’s near the fence that seperates our two properties. Well lo and behold I see a female cardinal. Cardinals always seem to be the birds you don’t see very often (we see Robins and Chickadees and Pigeons….and Pigeons…and Pigeons… all the time. But rarely see a Cardinal). Anyway, I was sufficiently distracted watching the bird and wondered where the hubby bird was, because usually where there’s the female there’s the male. Eventually I saw him as he flew off and then she joined up with him.

Anyway, I got out of my car and went on my merry way not realizing I forgot to turn my lights off. (No my car did not buzz or beep to remind me the lights were on. You kidding? It’s an ‘86 Firebird…half of the idiot lights and buzzers on that car were disconnected years ago. And not by me.)

Of course, if I didn’t have to feel like I had to be so friggin’ cool and drive with my parking lamps on I wouldn’t have had this problem. Ya think?
