Arlene's Donuts was on the northwest corner of Bundy Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles. They went out of business near the end of the 80's, and it became a place called "Daddy's Burritos" which also went under and a Starbuck's Coffee took its place. Arlene's used to make these absolutely awesome apple fritters that were bigger than an oven mitt and enough to feed 3 people. They were only $0.65 as I recall through the mid-80's. The original Arlene's cook, a guy named Tony, opened an Italian deli about a block south of where Arlene's used to be. It was in a mini-mall next to a 7-11, and I think it's still open to this day. They have doughnuts there too, although I don't remember them being as good or as huge as Arlene's.
